Hampstead Aerials & Satellites started as a two-van outfit working the NW3 hills and never lost that footing. We aren't a franchise and we don't sell subscriptions, so the advice you get is simply what will give you the steadiest picture for the least money.
That independence matters here more than most places. High ground in Highgate, deep tree cover around the Heath, listed frontages in Camden, shared systems in Swiss Cottage mansion blocks — each needs a different answer. Sometimes it's a full high-gain aerial on a new mast, sometimes it's a corroded connector costing you every HD channel.

Picture breaks into blocks, then recovers
Classic marginal digital signal. Around the Heath and Highgate it's usually summer tree growth in the path to Crystal Palace, or an amplifier that's now doing more harm than good.
Some channels missing, others perfect
Different multiplexes sit at different frequencies and power levels. A wideband aerial pointed at the wrong transmitter, or a tired mast head amp, drops the weakest ones first.
Worse in wind and rain
Water in the cable or a cracked connector at the aerial. Very common on installs where the coax was never dressed with a drip loop and the outer sheath has perished.
Fine on one TV, poor on another
Passive splitters halve the signal at every branch. Long runs to loft conversions and garden rooms need proper distribution amplification, not another two-way splitter.
Sky or Freesat says 'no satellite signal'
Dish knocked out of alignment by scaffolding, birds or a storm, or an LNB that has failed after years of weather. Both are quick fixes once metered.
New aerial, still poor picture
An aerial is only as good as its alignment, height and cable. We regularly re-point and re-cable installs that were bolted up without a meter ever coming out of the bag.

Most reception faults in NW and N postcodes are seen the same or next working day. Installations that need a specific aerial or a scaffold are usually booked within the week, and we'll give you a two-hour arrival window rather than a whole day.
Do you charge to diagnose a problem?
Advice over WhatsApp is free and often enough to narrow things down. If we attend, you'll be told the call-out and repair price before we begin, and that figure doesn't change unless you ask for extra work.
Which transmitter should my aerial point at?
Most of North London is served by Crystal Palace, but pockets of Highgate, Muswell Hill and Finchley do better on Alexandra Palace or a relay. It depends on your roof height and what's in the way, which is exactly what our meter tells us on the day.
Can you work on a listed building or in a conservation area?
Yes. We site aerials and dishes discreetly — rear elevations, chimney flanks, below ridge lines — and can advise on what's typically acceptable to Camden and Barnet planners before you commit.
Do you do the work Sky won't?
That's a good part of our week: long cable runs, awkward roofs, multi-room feeds, moving an existing dish, replacing failed LNBs and re-aligning dishes after building work.
