Muswell Hill sits high and exposed, its Edwardian parades along the Broadway giving way to broad terraced streets — Dukes Avenue, Queens Avenue, Cranley Gardens — that fall away sharply towards Alexandra Park Road and Colney Hatch Lane. The houses themselves are generous, with tall gables and substantial chimney stacks that were built to carry proper pots and flues, which in practice gives good solid fixing points for an aerial bracket, but the terrain does the opposite of what you'd expect from the hill's name: because streets tip downward so quickly, a house near the crest can have a clean run to Crystal Palace while one further down the same road looks straight into the rising ground or the roofline of the house in front. Tree cover thickens noticeably in summer, and we've seen readings drop enough in full leaf to justify an aerial upgrade that wasn't needed the previous winter, so where a garden or street has heavy tree growth we test with that in mind rather than only on a clear day.
