Mesh works when the units are placed properly
The single biggest mistake with mesh is spacing. Each unit needs a strong link back to the next one, so on a tall London terrace that usually means one per floor, positioned on landings rather than tucked into back rooms. We place them from measurements, not from the diagram on the box.
Where we can, we feed each unit with a network cable. Wired backhaul frees the radios to talk to your devices instead of to each other, which is the difference between mesh that feels like fibre upstairs and mesh that stutters on video calls.
We also tune the parts people never touch: band steering, channel selection away from crowded neighbours, roaming thresholds so devices actually let go of a weak unit, guest access if you want it, and firmware brought up to date before handover.

Mesh WiFi systems — the details
How many mesh units do I need?
For a typical four-storey Hampstead terrace, three is common — one low, one mid, one top. We confirm from readings rather than guessing.
Is mesh better than one strong router?
In a solid-walled London house, yes. No single router covers four floors of brick well, however good its specification.
Can you use the mesh kit I already bought?
Usually. Most systems underperform because of placement and settings rather than hardware.
Will my smart home devices reconnect?
We keep the same network name and password where possible so cameras, speakers and thermostats rejoin on their own.
Does mesh need cabling?
Not strictly, but it performs noticeably better with it, and we are set up to run cable discreetly.
